As the web evolves users are beginning to seek out alternatives that provide a comprehensive search experience, far beyond Google & Bing results. Paula J. Hane, believes ” It’s best to keep an arsenal at hand rather than just a single weapon of choice.”

This realization contributes to the growth and adoption of LeapFish:

“In 2009 the company made substantial advancements and innovations to its growing search engine including real time search, deeper search results, personalized homepages, content sharing features, and proprietary Twitter and Facebook applications. The changes have helped grow the engine from an Alexa traffic ranking of 150,000 to 10,000 in less than one year.” - Said Hane

If you were at the conference you may have seen Bas as part of the group “Search Cowboys”.
Search Engine Strategies New York is the premiere search event with well over 6,000 attendees this year and LeapFish was excited to contribute to the conference. Bas goes on to describe his experience:

“Thanks for Leapfish for sponsoring me to get to SES New York. During a few days in March the city of Austin turns into a melting pot for developers, bloggers, journalists, public relation professionals, famous brands, and emerging technologies that we all will see this year. The scene was set for those to share and learn from leading minds in technology and social media. Whether you preferred to sit in on a keynote or attend a sold out party sponsored by Mashable or Microsoft, SXSW had you covered.

LeapFish was excited to take part in the festivities at SXSW this past weekend.
Lena Shaw, the Manager of PR and Social Media at LeapFish had the opportunity to sit down with one of SXSW’s featured editors Scott Kelly to discuss LeapFish and LeapFish culture. Scott Kelly currently writes for MyTekLife.com and took the time to understand the team behind the technology. SXSW now knows LeapFish employees are active, creative and love to spread the LeapFish love. Stay tuned for the Spring issue of MyTekLife featuring Leonardo DiCaprio on the cover.

The article goes on to discuss the need for real time results in search engines. Studies have shown that users are not finding Google Real Time results useful leading researches to believe that the results in general are not useful. However with their recent announcement, Twitter has seen a rush in innovation allowing smaller real time search engines to have access to their “firehose” feed. Bas goes on to state that “Bing could be one of the real time search engines and compete with the likes of LeapFish”.

Behrouzi believes there are two types of real time searches that will attract users to sites like LeapFish:

“There are two types of real time searches,” Behrouzi said. “One occurs passively when the user is searching for a specific, potentially non real-time topic and they are offered real time results. The second occurs when a user is actively looking for a real time search experience for a particular topic. Including real time results in SERPs only addresses the first type of real time search, because it is an inadequate experience real-time content. The second type of real time search must be answered with a more multimedia experience that not only captures the piece of news occurring in real-time but also delivers the key imagery, video and opinions that users are looking for when actively performing a real-time search.”
