A Lesson Learned the Hard Way and You can Benefit

Posted by: Mark Kithcart Director of Marketing on: January 12, 2009

Let me set the scene:

The year is 1995 and I am a freshman in college. A student in my class is pretty excited about something to do with the internet and is telling me how we should pool together our money and purchase famous people’s domain names. He tells me: “We can buy MichaelJordan.com or some other famous person. They will totally have to come to us and buy it off of us later. We can make a bundle!”

Now, when I was a freshman in college I had no idea what this guy was talking about. I was busy playing two varsity sports, taking classes, and doing what most college kids do. Man, was I foolish! I often wonder if this guy did in fact make some of these purchases, and where he is now. I told him I had no money to spend on this and wasn’t going to take the “risk.” Hindsight being 20/20, there sure was not much risk associated with the purchase of domain names as an investment.

The opportunity to purchase permanent advertising space is a revolutionary idea and one that more and more people are taking advantage of. LeapFish provides such a powerful alternative to other forms of advertising and specifically allows business owners to step away from the high cost and often confusing world of Adwords, Adsense and PPC marketing. Rather than paying every time an end user clicks on your link, you simply pay a one time purchase price and you own that ad slot, forever! Renewing the ad slot for 5% once per year is such a nominal fee that it’s an obvious decision to maintain ownership rather than renting a spot on a search engine.

Here is what some folks are saying:

“I am still paying for Ad Words on a PPC model and spend about $2000 per month on them. I really liked the idea that for pretty much the same amount I own the keyword that I think fits me best.”

“This is great. I was getting killed by PPC. I really hope this thing takes off.”LeapFish And therein lays the two sided value. Yes, you will get increased visibility by owning the ad slot and putting up your ad to direct traffic to your business website. That visibility will only increase as LeapFish grows in popularity. And as LeapFish grows through viral marketing and social networking amongst other things, the value of the ad slot that clients are purchasing is increasing daily! If you recall, most AdWords and PPC terms cost pennies initially. Some now cost as much as $20 per click. And who is clicking? And what is each click really worth? The high cost and cloudiness of what a click is really worth is what is leading advertisers to begin to look at alternative solutions.

LeapFish is just such a solution and the time is now to take a fresh look at how you are spending your advertising dollars.

Ok so you allow people to “buy” keywords. I think that is great so no more Pay Per Cluck. Traffic is apparently there according to Alexa I think you can offer an alternative. Will it become the primary model? Not sure.
