Today LeapFish.com released the latest version of our popular domain name appraisal tool. We have received a lot feedback from the domain name appraisal tool users (that’s you!) and as a result we have incorporated scores for all domain name appraisals. These scores were developed to provide additional analytics and information for our users who wanted to understand the logic behind the domain name appraisal tool.
Included are two sets of scores, one of which is an “Overall Score”, defined as an average of all the Sub-Scores. The current Sub-Scores have a range of zero through 100 and include:
Domain Name Length Score
Domain Name Popularity Score
Domain Name Links Score
Domain Name Exposure Score
Domain Name Traffic Score

Domain Name Length Score
This one is simple, a specific value is assigned to the number of total characters a particular domain has. Typically the shorter the domain name the higher the score. Shorter domain names generally are of a higher value for a many reasons, most importantly due the names marketability.
Domain Name Popularity Score
Popularity is a little more complicated but in simple terms it takes into account the commonality of a particular domain name. The word “Home” is a common English word that is used often whereas a potential misspelling such as “Hme” is not as common and is used less frequently therefore it is assigned a lower score.
Domain Name Links Score
This score is determined by links coming from other websites to the domain name you are appraising. This score is not solely based on the total number of links but rather is combined with the quality of the links that point to the domain. The best way to increase this score is by having as many credible, high value sites link to the domain as possible. Links from ads and/or link exchange programs do not impact this score.
Domain Name Exposure Score
This score is related to the efforts made by the domain owner and/or webmaster to gain exposure on the Internet. These can include quantity of content, organization/structure of content, and authority on topic(s) related to domain name word(s). A way to increase this score is to generate quality content that is related to the meaning(s) of the domain name.
Domain Name Traffic Score
As one would think, this sub-score associated with Domain traffic is directly associated with how much traffic that domain name generates. The more traffic, the higher the score.
It is important not to confuse the scores with price or dollar value. Scores were designed in a manner to provide additional insight into what factors can control the domain name appraisal value as well as offer a comparison methodology.
Users can access this tool via Leapfish.com by entering their full domain (with the .com, .net, .org extension) in the search box.
Tell us what you think
As always, we want to hear from you. Leave us a comment telling us what you like and what you don’t like. That way we can potentially incorporate user comments and suggestions in future releases.
